The glaring flashes of explosions, the damage they create, the lights of the city still blazing , all reflected in the still water of the Euphrates, give the scene a terrible beauty. Camera in hand, the US Army photographer contemplates the ruins of palaces in the Cradle of Civilisation… The half-tone treatment of the figure gives the image the urgent authority of news photography.
