This relief, which is on display in the Fusiliers Museum, Northumberland, commemorates the participation of the 5th (Northumberland) Regiment of Foot in the Siege of Badajoz in 1812 during the Peninsula War. Laing served in the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers from 1955 to 1960.
