Commissioned as a memorial to Air Commander Donald MacDonnell of Glengarry, 22nd chief of the Glengarry MacDonnells (1919–99). The raven on the rock (Creagh an Fhitich) is the crest from the Glengarry MacDonnell’s coat of arms. The rock on which Laing’s raven sits was brought from Invergarry, the seat of the MacDonnells of Glengarry. The engraving on the plinth is by Emma Lavender.
