Lacquered aluminium and chrome on brass, formica-veneered plywood boxes
Clark, Texas
In 1966-67 I produced a group of works which were contained in formica boxes, or ‘environments’. This was an attempt to provide a perfect place in which the works could function. Very few real environments, particularly in domestic situations, are uncluttered. Most are, from a purely aesthetic point of view, positively insanitary. Often these boxed pieces were of great size and presented practical problems, especially with respect to hanging weight.
